Zhiwa Ling Among 24 Unique Lodges by National Geographic

travelindex-hotels-travel-directory-1072Paro (Bhutan) – March 3, 2015 – The luxurious Zhiwa Ling Hotel Paro received the accolade of being one only of 24 Unique Lodges of the World by the esteemed National Geographic Society. The Zhiwa Ling Hotel is proud to boast of being the only 5 star Hotel in Bhutan that is locally owned and operated.

The name Zhiwa Ling derives its title from the English translation as “The Place of Peace” Zhiwa Ling Hotel was founded by Yangphel Adventure Travel & Tours, our parent company. This Company was formed in 2005 with 69 employees under the visionary leadership of Chairman, Mr. Ugyen Rinzin.

The Zhiwa Ling project took five years to complete and hotel operations commenced on September 25th 2005. Our architect from California, Mr. Peter Kampf, was brought in to assist with the designing of this magnificent tribute to Bhutan. Peter worked tirelessy with a team of over 250 local tradesmen.

The philisophy of our Chairman, and his vision, was to accept his social responsibility and culture by employing at least 95% Bhutanese staff and to continue preserving the culture and tradition of the Country.

He strongly believes in GNH (Gross National Happiness) in terms of doing business. Hotel Zhiwa Ling has embarked on a ground-breaking quest to bring sustainability into the day to day operations of the hotel so that we are on a par with international standards for ‘green’ hotels and to fulfilling the high expectations of our valued guests.

What differentiates Zhiwa Ling’s sustainable tourism program from any other in the world, however, is that we aspire to incorporate GNH not just into the way we do business, but the way we treat our staff, and the way we take care of our guests and numerous visitors.

Enjoy your visit, it is our privilege having you here, not only at “The place of Peace” but also to the Kingdom of the “Thunder Dragon”.
