Discover Landmark Transformation at Plaza Athénée Bangkok

travel-news-2Bangkok (Thailand) – May 10, 2016 (travelindex) – As one of Bangkok’s largest and most prestigious conference hotels, Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien will inspire you with over 5,600 square metres of meeting space offering the ultimate in style and flexibility.
Located on a leafy boulevard in the heart of the city, the hotel is central, well-connected by road and rail, and renowned as one of Bangkok’s most fashionable places to stay and to host significant and glittering occasions.

Royal roots and influences:
Recently extensively remodelled, modernised and sustainably repurposed, Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien pays delightful deference to its royal roots. As the hotel is built on the site Kandhavas, the royal palace of H.R.H. Princess Valaya Alongkorn, 43rd daughter of King Rama V, the design reprises the Thai-Colonial style that the princess, herself a renowned aesthetic expert, inhabited in her lifetime.

ISO 20121 Exemplary sustainability credentials:
Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien’s distinction of being the first in the world to achieve ISO 20121 certification for planning and delivering sustainable events is not only reflected in “Sustainable Meeting Practices” but in the seamless fusing of repurposed original elements into the new understated chic design.

Conservation and sustainability principles are woven into every element of the Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel, with precious materials and pieces of furniture treasured as priceless heirlooms, complemented by high-efficiency LED lighting and signage installed throughout. Moreover, all design, craftsmanship and workmanship are 100% home-grown in Thailand.

Only certified organic rice is served:
Closely complementing the above distinction and exemplifying the hotel’s active community engagement and sustainability practices, as of January 2016, the hotel only serves certified organically-grown rice. All rice served in the hotel’s restaurants, banqueting and staff canteen now carries Organic Agriculture Certification Thailand, confirming that the Satjatham Rice Project, Amnatcharoen, where it comes from, meets ACT Organic Standards. Work is progressing towards further extending organic exclusivity to vegetables and fruits.

Award-winning interior design:
The extensive remodelling project won the designers the prestigious Five Star Asia Pacific Property Award 2015-2016 in the category of “Best Hotel Interior Thailand”. As guests arrive at the hotel, they automatically sense an air of Thai traditional nobility from an era when exquisite luxury blended with traditional Thai characteristics just as it does today.

The design for Royal Club guestrooms and suites is influenced by Thai royal ceremonies that took place in the royal palace while Athénée guest rooms and suites represent the summer palace. Carefully selected colour palettes, artwork and Thai panels all result in an extremely impressive hotel interior concept.

Memorable meetings:
Handsomely remodelled and extensively modernised, the Athéneum Meetings Rooms offer meeting and event organisers unique opportunities to redefine their strategies. Occupying Level 06 of the hotel in its entirety, the six meeting rooms, boardroom and unique lounge feature elegant style cues deferring to the hotel’s royal roots. All meeting rooms are fully equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual technologies complemented by natural day-light and unobstructed city views throughout.

On arrival from the lift, one passes through a grand doorway and arrives in the middle of the floor at the Athéneum Lounge, a creative space offering themed coffee breaks prepared in an open kitchen plaza. Large wall-mounted LED screens invites delegates to take group photos and upload images from their meeting and admire them from sumptuous leather chesterfield couches.
Boardroom dignity is respected but embellished by a magnificent solid Thai marble trapezoid shaped table. The largest meeting room offers 150 square metres of space and comfortably hosts 80 delegates theatre style.

Meanwhile, the entire floor of Meetings rooms feature state-of-the-art technology, comprising all LED lights, top-of-the-range audio visual systems, including versatile projectors, high resolution giant screens, sophisticated sound systems, adjustable mood lighting and individual climate control in each room. Added with glass white walls for chalking up notes and diagrams, the setups are ideal for seminars sessions, training courses and board meetings alike.

Versatility is another key. For instance, one room is designed so that it can be separated into two by a soundproof partition ready for instant breakouts or group sessions.

Exquisite events at Kandhavas Place:
Dramatic remodelling of Level 04, the hotel’s pool garden and fitness floor, has liberated a new mid-size function space – Kandhavas Place – with ideal ambiance and proportions for hosting special dinner parties, engagements and weddings, meetings and business events.
The modern tropical classic reflects the hotel’s royal roots. A Thai colonial era style space with a high vaulted antique sanded white wooden ceiling, tall window walls and pillars and rustic-refined wooden floor and smart brown windowpanes and walls.

An elegant mezzanine enables special announcements, a top table or live band. Below an elegant staircase, a smartly staffed theatre kitchen prepares original or “green” coffee breaks, canapés and gourmet meals, as required.

Antique reproduction lanterns combined with layers of natural daylight or creatively composed night time illuminations, ensure every event is bathed in a flurry of freshness.

Externally there is a sense of summer in the countryside by the pool where everyone feels relaxed and inspired.

Delightful cuisine for delegates and guests at Rain Tree Café:
The Rain Tree Café all-day dining and buffet restaurant is also conceived in a modern interpretation of Thai neo-colonial interior décor + style. Three separate but complementary spaces, evidencing extreme elegance and making excellent use of natural light, are interwoven with threads of touching homeliness.

These three unique but connected areas are aptly named: The Bronze Kitchen upgraded with interactive live cooking stations, The Valaya Room, a formal library-style VIP space, and The Secret Garden for private al fresco affairs.

The stunning international buffet presents an inspiring voyage of culinary discovery, including five specialty dishes of the day from the hotel’s head chefs in charge of its other award-winning restaurants. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Sunday Brunch are all experiences to be treasured.
