Orange Kenya Golf Trophy at Muthaiga Golf Club
Nairobi (Kenya) – May 27, 2014 – The Kenya Golf Trophy, which is being supported by a host of leading international and domestic companies, has become Africa’s largest corporate Amateur Golf Tournament. The 3rd edition of the Kenya Golf Trophy will be held at Muthaiga Golf Club, on 10 October 2014.
Last year this event attracted 50 sponsors and had forty (40) promotional prizes for the winners valuing more than US $ 50.000. This branding and networking golf event seems to be ever growing in importance and size. While the Daily Nation will remain the official media sponsor, Orange Telkom is this year’s Title Sponsor.
The event is now officially called the Orange Kenya Golf Trophy.
Etihad Airways is the official airline for the third time and donates 4 Etihad tickets to any destination in the world: 2 for the winner and 2 for the runner-up. Heineken will again generously sample its premium beer, while NAS/Cuisine will, just like last year, show its culinary art by sponsoring delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared on the spot for the hundreds of golfers and their guests.
Mercedes Benz has renewed its Eagle sponsorship and will show its latest luxury cars at the club during the day. Crown Paints, a company actively supporting Kenya Golf, has renewed its Eagle sponsorship for the third time, while Philips will demonstrate its line of domestic appliances and its latest range of energy saving LED lighting, among many other sponsors showing their products and services in the tented village.
Event Organizer, Tob Cohen of Tobs Kenya Golf Safaris, Travel & Events, said that all last year’s sponsors are in the process of renewing their commitments for the event on 10 October, while new companies are coming in as major sponsors. New sponsor Orange Telkom became the new Albatross (Title) Sponsor and Enaai Lolldaiga will be the exclusive Golf Property Development Company as Birdie Sponsor, while Mugie will promote its new golf course and boutique hotel within its 49,000 acre wild life conservation area as Par Sponsor.
It is far beyond our expectations how this event has attracted so many sponsors and so much interest in Kenya and around the world. How this annual event has become the most important amateur golf event on the Kenya Golf Calendar in such a short time is truly amazing! It has even become Africa’s largest corporate amateur golf tournament! Without the support of all these leading companies, we would not have been able to create an event with such magnitude and with such excellent quality. We really appreciate all sponsors for supporting this event.
As Official Partner, The Junior Golf Foundation will once more benefit from the Orange Kenya Golf Trophy. The proceeds of a hole-in-one shoot-out over the lake on hole 13 and the proceeds of an auction for holiday vouchers generously donated by different hotels and lodges, will go to the JGF. Also, the 4 best juniors in the order of merit will compete for one of the many prizes. Last year all 4 won a prize! Tobs always believed that developing young golf talent in Kenya will one day propel a Kenyan player to the Leader Board of one of the major P.G.A. Tours in the world and put Kenya even more on the map as a superb golf tourism destination.
The winner of last year’s event, which was held at Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Mr. Humphrey Maina Mwangi of Kiambu Golf Club, who scored 40 stableford points, and whose name is engraved on the large Chrystal Floating Trophy, is invited to defend his title at Muthaiga Golf Club on 10 October.
Muthaiga Golf Club, which celebrated its centenary last year and proudly called the Home of Golf by its elite membership, is in many ways the embodiment of Kenya’s unique marriage of ancient golf tradition and a modern 18 hole championship golf course.
The naturally challenging and well maintained golf course with fast undulated greens, winds through the lush woodlands of Karura Forest, with tree-lined fairways interspersed with 9 lakes and ponds. The many water features, which in one way or the other are in play on 12 holes, are a breeding ground for Egyptian Geese, while monkeys frolic on the 522 yard doglegged 4th hole and the par 3 fifth.
