EVVC Sustainable Concepts

news_01 May. 12, 2013Los Angeles, California (USA) – May 12, 2013 – Green Globe announces re-certification of the European Association of Event Centers (EVVC) head office in Frankfurt, Germany. As a strategic Green Globe partner, the EVVC has demonstrated leadership and innovation in the fields of operational efficiency and social responsibility for years. The EVVC integrated the philosophy of sustainability at all levels, making it the core of the company’s corporate strategy.

“With our numerous events and activities we would like to inspire our members and partners to show respect and act in an environmentally-friendly way,” said Martina Fritz, General Manager at the EVVC head office in Frankfurt. “Corporate social responsibility is our top priority, and it does not come as a surprise that we are in compliance with 93% of the indicators required for Green Globe certification. It is our goal to continuously improve our efforts and set an example for the entire industry.”

In 2010 the EVVC and Green Globe developed and introduced a joint certification process for event venues. In addition, the EVVC initiated their “Sustainability Codex,” which has been continuously defined and improved over the past few years. A long-term Sustainability Management System is in place at the EVVC, and operational performance is strictly monitored. In recent years, the EVVC could lower their energy consumption dramatically – leaving a considerably smaller footprint. The company is proud to report CO2 reductions of 7,213 kg by using German national railway Deutsche Bahn for transportation at their 2012 Manager Summit in Salzburg. Deutsche Bahn is a partner of the EVVC, and offers tickets and preferred rates for all EVVC-related events, encouraging visitors to travel in a sustainable way.

Another success for the EVVC is the relocation of their head office to Frankfurt earlier this year, sharing space with Green Globe member Saalbau Betriebsgesellschaft mbH. The entire staff agreed to use public transportation for their commute, fully supported by the EVVC, who reimburses the expense. For private transfers, the EVVC uses a local eco-certified taxi company.

Sustainability provides the convention and events sector with a crucial competitive edge, and there is a growing demand for green meetings and events. The EVVC is dedicated to deliver sustainable environmental concepts, practical support and solutions, allowing their members to compete successfully in the global market.
