Hawaiian Airlines Earns Carbon Credits

Honolulu, HI (USA) – 23 February 2012 – Hawaiian Airlines earned the first ever aviation-based carbon credits by reducing carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 22,000 metric tonnes over the past six years. Hawaiian Airlines’ commitment to the reducing carbon dioxide emissions started through a program launched in 2005. Since then, its engine-washing system has saved the company more than 2.5 million gallons of fuel, along with an estimated 26,000 gallons of water that would have been used with traditional washing methods.
